Doug Scott, Policy Director for the Campaign for America's Wilderness (www.leaveitwild.org) will present on America's nationwide system of wilderness areas. Mr. Scott will discuss their recreational, educational, economic, environmental, and spiritual value.  These natural lands were protected by Congress, and as of 2006 are comprised of 700 wilderness areas in 44 of the 50 states.  This talk will be illustrated with photographs from Mr. Scott's new book "Our Wilderness: America's Common Ground," which will be published this spring, with a foreword by Robert Redford.

Film : A 16-minute film produced by Friends of Allegheny Wilderness, "Keystone Wilderness: A Citizen's Wilderness Proposal for Pennsylvania's Allegheny National Forest" will accompany Mr. Scott's presentation. The goals of the Center for Environmental Policy (CEP) at The Academy of Natural Sciences are to evaluate key issues of environmental policy, facilitate dialogues and decision-making on environmental topics, and inform the public from both an academic as well as practical perspective.  The CEP will answer the need for a non-partisan, science-based organization that is capable of accessing and guiding a myriad of public and private stakeholders.
